The Problem
Muslims Are Leaving Islam
1 in 4 Muslims who are raised in America leave Islam.
This is not just happening in America.
It’s happening all over the world. Even in Muslim countries.
And it’s not just happening with born Muslims.
It’s even happening with converts.
Muslims get excited at the number of people converting to Islam. But they don’t realize that up to 7 out of 10 converts end up leaving Islam.
The Reason
We Aren’t Teaching Critical Thinking
Islam encourages critical thinking. But today it’s become a mere cultural identity. We raise our children to like Islam, not to think critically and realize that it’s a fact. And non-Muslims often convert out of an emotional liking for Islam, not because they come to well-thought-out realizations that Islam is a fact.
The reason why born Muslims and converts are leaving Islam is because they haven’t been taught how to think critically about Islam. So their faith is just an emotional preference. And that means that it changes when something unpleasant happens. They fall into religious doubts and may even leave Islam.
Ibrahim fell into doubts from Muslim-Atheist debates on YouTube until he took why Islam is True.
In previous times, emotional preferences might have been sufficient. But they are no longer sufficient today because Islam is constantly being attacked.
These attacks come from everywhere. They begin as soon as our children start school. They are in their science classes. Because of the media, they are a part of popular culture both inside and outside school. These attacks strike most dangerously in university, when children leave their parents homes and begin to explore the ideas that their parents tried to shelter them from. And they are everywhere on social media and the Internet.
When Islam is just an emotional attraction based on belonging to a culture or family, or on positive experiences, these attacks produce intellectual doubts that linger in the mind and become stronger when someone has bad relationships with other Muslims, or when they experience difficulties in their lives.
To make matters worse, Muslim youth are being pushed out of Islam through a dysfunctional Islamic educational environment. Parents and teachers feel insecure because they are unable to intellectually respond to these doubts. So they emphasize fear-based compliance instead of engaging with Muslim youth intellectually, encouraging them to object, and really come to their own realizations that Islam is true.
Here are some emails we have received from people crying for help.
This is a father of a five-year-old girl who said he has stopped practicing and he no longer believes in Islam but would give anything to feel what he once felt:
Hi
I’m no longer a practicing Muslim. Perhaps I even see myself as atheist. I’m 30 years old, married and with a 5 year old daughter. My wife and I at the same time lost confidence in religion and no longer practice. She still believes in god, I don’t. A close friend of mine, who is a hafiz and alim, recommended your site to me, I found it interesting…If your course gives me the theological proof I am looking for, and begin to pray again, I would give you all I have to feel the contentment I once had.

The Solution
Quranic Arguments Applied to Modern Doubts Using Critical Thinking
Muslims are looking for the solution in the wrong places.
The solution is not:
complicated “man-made” philosophical arguments,
handing out of pamphlets,
producing flashy videos, or
aggressively refuting non-Muslims in debates.
The solution is in the Quran.
Muslims used to have a tradition of religious critical thinking. This tradition was based on Quranic arguments for the truth of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ used these arguments to show everyone that Islam is true.
The solution is simple.
We just need to:
show everyone that Islam is true using these Quranic rational arguments,
apply them to modern doubts using critical thinking, and
use the empathetic and gentle approach of the Prophet ﷺ
