Bismillah al Rahman al Raheem. Wa sallalahu ala sayyidna Muhammad waala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam.
Assalam Alaykum wa rahmatullahi ta'ala wa barakutuhu.
My name is Sara and I am currently a student of Shaykh Hamza Karamali at Basira Education in his course on the Sacred Law of Business Transactions, Personal Agreements, and Inheritance. For a long time I was looking to do a course on Islamic transactions that enabled me to navigate modern financial issues with confidence. As a Muslim, of course I knew simple things like the impermissibility of engaging in usury and the general principle of being cautious with how one earns their livelihood. I had even taken courses on classical treatments of the subject before. But I was looking for more detail and, more importantly for me, I was looking to learn how the sacred law would actually apply to an increasingly complex global financial system.
I found Shaykh Hamza's lessons so to speak some time ago. Prior to this course I had benefited greatly from his lessons on Imam Taftazani's commentary on the Nasafiyyah Sharh al Aqa'id. This is a text I am currently still studying at a Master's level in college and Shaykh Hamza's clear and deep understanding of the text played a large role in my ability to grasp otherwise difficult concepts.
So I already knew he was a very gifted teacher mashallah, and when I heard he was opening Basira Education and later that he would do a course on transactional law, I was thrilled.
But I did have some concerns. Of these, the biggest concerns I had in enrolling were: (1) Was it going to break the bank like so many other similar programs? and (2) Was I going to be able to stay motivated and see the course through to its end? Mashallah Basira Education's model for online learning was and is a pleasant surprise. Their modest pricing and financing options made it a non issue to sign up right away, and their combination of live classes, recorded lessons and a lively forum were all that I needed to make sure I was moving through the course material.
Alhamdulillah. I would recommend this course to pretty much anyone who wants to learn the sacred law around business transactions, and I would go further to say that I know from my experience that any class you take at Basira Education will be a worthwhile investment.
Shaykh Hamza's scholarship, humility and clear explanations are rare enough to find, so if you have been feeling stuck in your path of pursuing Islamic Knowledge, or if you just have gaps in your learning that you want to fill in like I did, I highly recommend that you sign up for a course or two at Basira today. It definitely changed my life for the better and I pray that Inshallah the same will be true for you.
